Lately I’ve been asking for feedback, proposing ideas and talking a lot about what’s to come with the app. That’s all cool and stuff but what about date ideas?
Regretably, I live in one of the most happening cities ever and I still say the words, “I’m bored!” sometimes. So in the spirit of believing that only boring people get bored here are some ways to feel not-so-boring:
A Burlesque Show – Skip the bar and the club. Even skip typical live music. A burlesque show is where it’s at. While this one takes place at a bar, it’s just not your average bar night. Dancer’s hanging from the ceiling, a dapper front man consumed in his own cigar smoke and a great band. This is one of my favorite things to do in LA. Must see.
In LA: Harvelle’s Santa Monica – 1432 4th St, Santa Monica, CA 90401
Couples Massage – Not sure what better way there is to relax together than to go to a spa. There are tons of em’ but here’s one with really good reviews that I’ve personally been to.
In LA: Larchmont Sanctuary Spa – 331 N Larchmont Blvd Los Angeles, CA 90004
Take a Dance Class – Like to dance? Perfect. Don’t like to dance? Even better! Getting out of your shell and learning something uncomfortable with your significant other can be a great bonding experience.
In LA: The Sweat Spot – 3327 W Sunset Blvd Los Angeles, CA 90026
Go Pedal Boating – When I found this spot, I was so stoked. Used to do this as a kid when I was really young and it’s one of the coolest date ideas on the planet. Cheap, takes up a good chunk of time and you’re one-on-one with the person. Private enough to get to know them and public enough for everyone to feel safe.
In LA: Echo Park Pedal Boats – 751 Echo Park Ave Los Angeles, CA 90026
Ice Skating! – Yup, even in LA and even outdoors, can you ice skate. There are a few indoor ones that you can go to year round but the real deal is downtown LA around Christmas time. They build it for the holidays and deck it out. If you’ve lived in a warm climate your whole life and have never been, you owe it to yourself to experience the magic. Hold hands, kiss and.. fall on your ass. It’s good fun though, honest.
In LA: Holiday Ice Rink Pershing Square – 532 S Olive St Los Angeles, CA 90014
Be a Tourist – Wherever you live, there are tourist attractions that draw people to it. Most of us natives see it and scoff. But allow yourself a shameless day to take a tour bus, go to the Wax Museum and maybe even put a map on a lanyard and wear it around your neck. Your secret is safe with me.
In LA: Follow the tourists – start in Hollywood!
Art Gallery – One of my favorite things. Get inspired to create, critique or stare confusingly(what I do) by seeking out some galleries. The galleries that are having openings are the most exciting and almost always have free wine and snacks. I personally look forward to the grab bag of miscellaneous coasters and swag they hand out when you walk in.
In LA: Here’s a Gallery Guide.
Comedy Show – Trying to make your date laugh? You could ask what their favorite comedian is and buy tickets to their show. They’re guaranteed to enjoy themselves on the date and it will show you listen and put in effort.
In LA: Laugh Factory – 8001 W Sunset Blvd Los Angeles, CA 90046
Do a Bucket List Item – As soon as people put things on their bucket list they never do them! Why? We all of a sudden regard them as items we have an infinite amount of time to complete. If your significant other is adventurous, go jump out of a plane with them! If on your bucket list is to see a famous musical, do that! Live life and start checking those items off with the person you care about most.
In LA: Sky Thrills – 3815 W Commonwealth Ave Fullerton, CA 92833
Stargaze – To do this one you need to get far, far away from La-La Land. Others are lucky enough to be able to see nature’s beauty and cosmos easily. In any event though, it’s totally worth it. Forget about your phone and office building and focus on each another.
If you wanna stay in LA: Griffith Observatory – 4730 Crystal Springs Dr Los Angeles, CA 90027
Mini Golfing – I love any form of playful competition like this. Not too serious and very nostalgic for many people. Good opportunity to talk and get to know a person in a no-pressure environment. For me it beats the daunting feeling of sitting directly across from someone at dinner and trying to come up with stuff to talk about.
In LA: Arroyo Seco Golf Course – 1055 Lohman Ln South Pasadena, CA 91030
Any cool suggestions I missed?
Peace and <3!
